Monica: Pole, Pedal, Paddle in Bend, Oregon
Big weekend in Bend for those extreme fitness types with the 32nd running of The Pole, Pedal, Paddle. It's a multi-sport extravaganza held every year in Bend. The race starts at the top of Mt. Bachelor, and ends nearly 35 miles later in downtown. 3,000 racers competed in 90 heat yesterday, including our sister-in- law ,Susan, who sprinted uphill in her ski boots before tackling the downhill ski race leg on Mt. Bachelor. If the sisters start training now, I think we could put together an all Satellite Sisters team for 2009. Here's how I see the race assignments:
Lian: The alpine ski race leg, because you own a pair of fast skis, and crave speed.
Julie: The nordic skiing leg, because you are the only sister who knows how to cross country ski, and you are pretty good at it.
Monica: The bike leg, because Liz and Lian hate riding bikes,.... and it's all downhill!
Liz: The 6 mile run. Sorry Liz you are the only sister who has run and finished two marathons.
Sheila: The boat race (canoe or kayak). Try to remember back to your days at Camp Quinibeck, and dig in.
Susan: The final sprint. Our sister-in law has won road races before. We are counting on her for a big finish.

Hi Monica,
Goodness, it sounds like a lot of work. Is there any good place to watch this competition rather than particpate? Bend sounds like a great place, and I'm pleased that you and your siblings have been able to work out a deal on the place for the summer. Sounds like it works for everyone.

Hey, I'm rooting for you guys! (Good luck getting Sheila in that boat, though! Could she swim it, instead? LOL!)
Sounds fun!
