Julie: It is never too late to get in on March Madness
I've been in a news blackout for the past week due to my Spring Break in Mexico. I avoided radio, tv, newspapers, and websites. I even shielded my eyes from the USA Today as I was walked through airports yesterday. Why? I wanted to stay eligible for the annual Satellite Sister Bracketology. I knew that I would not be able to convince Lian who manages our annual bracketology competition to let me join late. I had to stay in the dark in order to be able to compete. I am proud to say that I have absolutely no idea who is in or who is out of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
I feel that it is never too late to get in on March Madness. So I forced my husband to print off a blank bracket sheet for me. I was afraid to go to espn.com for fear of gaining some unwanted information.
I am now able to make my picks and submit my form. I use a multi-faceted decision-making model that has resulted in one win in the Satellite Sister Annual contest. Here is my rationale: (a)top picks ( our engineer John Ramos taught me that the good teams go farther), (b) schools that I have worked for or ( c) would want to work for ( I was an admissions officer for many years), (d) Jesuit schools ( family tradition) and (e) schools with nice admissions officers who I met at recruiting events and (e) schools that I just don't like for various reasons I have going out in an early rounds. Information regarding the quality of coaching or players health does not enter into my model.
So as I write this, I still have no idea who is in or out but my final four are : UCLA, Louisville, Kansas and Memphis.
Gotta go and see how I am doing in the tournament. I love March Madness.

Way to go, Julie! I just checked the brackets online and your methodology works so far.
I cannot think beyond UCLA. My tax office mate in the next room had the games on all weekend and kept me up to date with what seed was beating what seed in what region. It went out of my head as soon as I commented on it.
Did March madness begin to give tax preparers something else to think about? It is a welcome diversion...

Hmmn.. so no one else is suspicious that in a weekend full of upsets, all 4 of Julie's picks came saiaing though, making her the only one in the Satellite Sisters Bracket Racket to make that claim? Perennial Satellite Sisters faves went down: Georgetown ( Monica's alma mater); Duje ( Liz has a Coach K thing); and UConn ( Our home state). And yet... Julie still stands with Louisville? Oooo-kay. You're in... but that's only because UCLA, my winning pick, avoided the upset bug in the last minute. Otherwise, I would have been cranky and unforgiving...
Bad weekend for our production staffer Janine who pick Butler to go all the way. ( Hello, Janine... you are from Wisconsin! And Wisconsin is looking good! Why Butler?) Ohter updates: Lian, Liz, Monica and webmaster Sarah all had Georgetown for a Final 4 team. But Sheila is looking good with 'Nova, UCLA and Wisconsin stll in it.
John Ramos-- I didn't get your picks! send them in.... You're too honest to change your brackets...

Hey sister
I will send you my notarized brackets today. I honestly. positively, did not peak. Having lived south of the Mason Dixon for many years, I have an affinity for southern schools. Duke does not count--I have some issues with Duke

I haven't paid a whole lot of attention since my underdog pics were all out early. But I will say that since Michigan State made it to the Sweeet 16, it's all about them. When they are out, I'm out.

Hi
Frist I have to say that I love your show on the radio and on the internet.
But... I am the only person that can't stand SPORTS. My husband is sitting in front of the TV for all of them. Golf, Football and Baseball. Thanks goodness I have my own TV in the bedroom so I can watch what I would like to watch.
I don't even want to sit in the den when the TV is going because it is sports all the time.
The one good thing about listening to you all on my computer this when you start talking SPORTS I can advance the program.
Hugs

Julie-
I'm not suspicious, I believe you...you wouldn't cheat. Nice job on your picks so far.
Monica- Sorry about the Hoyas. I only saw the first half of the game and was surprised when I saw they had lost. My 10yr old nephew was rooting for Davidson. Only because on the TV screen is showed them as David. He told me he wanted David to win because that is his middle name. :-)
